The Chili King
Shawn is a fabulous cook. Lucky me as cooking isn’t my favorite thing to do. This was actually a pre-nup, a funny story for another day.
For those who know my husband, know he is an all-in, competitive, outgoing person. When there is a contest, he loves to enter it but then he works his butt off to win.
His amazing culinary skills put him to the head of the pack when his buddy, Chris Mendell began a Chili making contest as a tradition for his annual bow hunting party. Through the years, Shawn reigned as the champion, eventually earning the title as Chili King. Many claim this was a popularity contest that consisted of personality and a lot of hysterical BS during the “sales pitch”. Those who entered the contest swore he won with his antics, not necessarily because it was better (sore losers)…especially Doc and Bubba. No matter what, his crock would be bare by mid-party, with many of the guys using their bread to wipe up the last drops of this truly delectable, hearty meal. Many years, Shawn would tweak the recipe to include other game- venison, moose, elk, bear. The ingredients were plenty and the spices hard to figure out. Believe me, many have tried and many have begged for his recipes. Here is a video from one of the competitions-always a great laugh!
For those who want to follow me, I have somehow managed to convince my husband to write down his famous chili recipe and allow me to share it!!! I guess that means he really loves me. I will send you the recipe to your email.
